A private network across the holding lets a collar report where the animal is and what it is doing — with no mast, no SIM and no subscription.
A working farm is a radio environment nobody designed. Stone barns, wet hedgerows, folded ground, long distances and a mains supply that stops at the yard. Mobile coverage was planned around roads and villages, not the far side of the hill.
Terrain and weather decide the link, not a tariff. A parcel that carries all summer can drop out once the ground is wet and the stock have moved into the bottom of the valley.
Anything on an animal or a gate runs from a cell or a small panel. The duty cycle sets what the product can do, not the processor.
Holdings run to kilometres, and no single base station sees the whole of one. A topology that needs every device within earshot of one mast will not survive its first winter.
Hardware gets kicked, rubbed on posts, jet-washed and frozen. Ingress protection and mechanical design are radio decisions too — the enclosure is part of the antenna.
Where is it, what is it doing, how does the data get back. The modules that answer them are built once and shared. The site decides what each one has to do.

Anchors on posts and buildings are the reference geometry. A collar ranges against them and resolves to a parcel, a gate or a trough without running GNSS all day, and reports the fix with a confidence figure.

The collar classifies grazing, ruminating, calving and still-for-too-long on the device, from its inertial sensor. The network carries the event — one animal, one state, one time — not the accelerometer trace.
Hop by hop, over ground the farm owns. No mast, no subscription.
Collars talk to the nearest anchor, anchors relay hop by hop along the tracks and watercourses stock actually use, and the yard gateway holds events through a dropped uplink. The spectrum is licence-free, so coverage is a property of the holding, not a subscription.
One hardware family serves all three verticals. What changes is the role each object takes and the conditions it has to survive.

Behaviour classification runs on the collar. The network carries events and positions, not waveforms — which is what makes a battery budget possible on an animal.
